This week,a 6-weekheartbeatprotectionlawis going into effect in Florida that will save thousands of innocent lives every year. Two years ago, a similarlawinmyhome state ofGeorgiasavedme andmybaby.
When I learned that I was unexpectedly pregnant, myfirst thought was to call an abortion center and schedule an appointment. I already had four children at home, thefather ofmychild was not inthepicture, andthebills were stacking up.
Not only did abortion seem liketheeasiest option, but it was alsomynatural reaction. I had abortions before, and overtime became desensitized tothetrue horror oftheprocedure. Bothmybody and mind were numb tothereality of abortion, andmysurroundings continued to tell methelie that I was not capable of raising another child.

Succumbing to old habits and external pressures, I called to schedulemyabortion. This time, however,Georgia’sheartbeatlawwas in place, and it was too late for me to havetheprocedure.

Little did I know atthetime, but thatlawwould savemybaby’slife. It also blessed a beautiful family with a healthy, happy little boy.
Theheartbeatlawprompted me tosearch for other resourcesand options formypregnancy.I still knew that I was not ready to raise another child and could not provide him withthenecessary love and support.
I was connected to Abiding Love through a woman atmychurch and soon learned aboutthebeauty of adoption. I knew deep down that I was not meant to raisemychild, but I wanted to carry him so that another family could experiencethemagic of parenthood.
Whilemydecision to putmybaby up for adoption took a huge weight offmyshoulders, I was still faced with being a single mother with copious amounts of bills to pay. To make matters worse, I was laid off frommyjob and now had to figure out how to keep a roof overmychildren’s heads, and food intheir stomachs.

Thankfully, thewomen at Abiding Love stepped in to take care of all ofmyburdens. They told me to write down all ofmybills, andmyaccount information. Within no time, they hadtaken care ofmyfinances, and ensured thatmyonly job was to lovemychildren andthebaby inside of me.
Mynext step was to select a family that would adoptmychild. I heard God speak to me so clearly one day telling me to write downtheexact family that I wanted to raise him.
I wantedtheparents to be full of love, and I wantedthem to have a dog and a beautiful house with a fence. I was detailed, and probably too specific with some things. But this isthefamily that would raisemychild – I wantedthem to be as perfect as possible.
As if by a miracle, thefirst family that I looked at seemed to exhibit all ofthetraits I had dreamed of formychild. I knew inmyheart at that moment thatthey would be his family, and in a sense, would becomemyfamily as well.

Upon first meetingthem, I knew I had madetheright decision. I felt at peace withthem, and I knew thatmysonwould feel at home. Throughouttherest ofthepregnancy, thecouple was with me every step oftheway. They checked in regularly, and were with me when I delivered our baby boy via cesarean. I quickly learned that not only weretheythere to lovethebaby and care for him, butthey werethere to love and care for me as well.
Now, 10 months later, we have a beautiful open adoption.Mysonknowsmyvoice, I get to see him regularly, and he is being raised in Florida withtheexact love andlifethat I had always dreamed of for him. He gets to thrive inthebest conditions possible, and I havethehonor of cheering him on fromthesidelines, providing even more love and support.
While I didn’t know aboutthenumerous resources and options available to me duringmyprevious abortions, I know now, and I hope other women know thatthey are strong, they have support – and that terminating your child’slifeis neverthesolution.
