Car rams gate at FBI office in Atlanta, driver arrested after attempting to enter facility

A driver crashed a vehicle into the front gate of the FBI’s Atlanta, Georgia headquarters on Monday, according to the bureau.

The bureau told Fox News that the vehicle rammed into the employee entrance shortly after noon. The bureau said a man attempted to follow an authorized vehicle through the gate, but was stopped.

The facility’s barricades were deployed to stop the vehicle. The suspect got out of the vehicle and tried to enter the facility.

The agents in the car he tried to follow in got out as did two other FBI agents who were leaving for lunch and detained the suspect.

The agents called DeKalb County Police who arrested the driver. He was taken to Grady Memorial Hospital for a mental evaluation as well as for possible injuries.

Law enforcement is working to determine the identity of the driver as well as a possible motive.

The car was towed away just before 4 p.m. local time, per FOX 5 Atlanta.

The FBI said it is checking the car per standard operating procedures and the investigation is ongoing.
