Georgia woman returns from vacation to find Atlanta home demolished by mistake

A woman from Georgia reportedly returned from a vacation to find a house she owned in Atlanta completely demolished.

Susan Hodgson said she found her longtime family property totaled after a construction company mistakenly tore it down, Fox 5 Atlanta reported.

Hodgson was apparently notified about the bizarre accident after receiving a call from a neighbor.

“It’s just hard to believe someone thinks they have the right to just come and tear something up and walk away from it and didn’t come back and say, ‘I’m sorry. What do I need to do to fix this? It was an accident.’ They didn’t give me nothing,” Hodgson told Fox 5 Atlanta.

Hodgson’s property has reportedly not been cleared since the demolition and is still covered with the rubble from the house.

“I am furious,” Hodgson told the AP. “I keep waking up thinking, ‘Is this all a joke or something?’ I’m just in shock.”

Hodgson said she and her family are trying to figure out what the next steps look like — including filing a police report and speaking with lawyers, according to the AP.
